History

Memorial Hospital, situated in the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest, provides healthcare services to Clay, Jackson and Owsley counties. The facility began service in 1917 as the Oneida Mountain Hospital before building at the current location in 1971 when it joined Adventist Health System. The Christian mission is central to the hospital’s participation in the wellness of the community.

Today the 63-bed facility has more than 450 employees who care for over 40,000 residents in Clay and surrounding counties. Memorial Hospital averages 60,000 patient visits each year, including 19,000 emergency visits and nearly 200 births. In the 1950s, the hospital was an innovator in home nursing care, taking much-needed medical services directly to the people. Memorial Hospital is the parent organization for five home health agencies in two states serving 15 counties.
