Memorial Hospital has gone smoke free for our entire campus. As we already had a smoke-free building, we are updating our policy to include a ban on tobacco products on all hospital-owned property. The new policy will apply to all employees, patients and visitors.
As a heatlhcare provider, we are committed to the principles of health and healing. Tobacco related illnesses are a major cause of preventable disease and death. Because of this our hospital is implementing a tobacco-free environment, both indoors and outdoors. According to the American Cancer Society, smoking is responsible for nearly one in five deaths in the United States. Because cigarette smoking and tobacco use are acquired behaviors, smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death in our society.
