Memorial's Community Outreach Department serves as a link between the community and the hospital in multiple facets. While bringing education and wellness promotion to the community, this department exemplifies the hospital’s mission of extending the healing ministry of Christ to those around us.
Our Community Outreach staff provide services such as tobacco education, health screenings with the Mission in Motion mobile health unit, annual health fairs, the Live It Up! childhood obesity prevention program, and smoking cessation classes.
For questions or for more information regarding these programs, or to have the Mission in Motion trailer visit your business for FREE screenings, contact our Community Outreach Coordinator at (606) 598-1095.
Mission in Motion
Manchester Memorial Hospital's Community Outreach team provides free health screenings to aid in wellness and prevention. Free screenings include blood glucose, body mass index, total cholesterol and blood pressure. These screenings can be held in convenient locations such as churches, businesses, parks and schools.
CREATION Health Fair
Each spring, this fair provides an interactive experience based on the principles CREATION Health. Local health agencies and health partners provide a variety of wellness offerings including free health screenings, Zumba demonstrations, martial arts instructions, massages and more.
Mommy & Baby Fair
Annually, we provide expectant mothers and moms-to-be a health fair designed specifically for them. The fair includes free health screenings, information booths, massages, Q&A sessions with OB/GYN physician and pediatricians, photo sessions, give-aways and even shopping.
The American Lung Association Freedom from Smoking Program is offered free to the public at Manchester Memorial Hospital on a regular basis. This 8-week program combines nicotine replacement therapy products (patches, gum or lozenges) with a supportive group setting and trained facilitators hosting the meetings.
We provide an 8-week (24 session) summer fitness program for people in Clay County. This free program combines instruction in health and wellness with a variety of physical activities and is designed for individuals ages 16 and up.
Live It Up!
Live It Up! is a 9-week supervised program for middle school students in Clay County. The curriculum we developed for this course includes a pre-test and post-test to evaluate progress and is based on the 8 principles of CREATION Health spelled out in the CREATION acronym: Choice, Rest, Environment, Activity, Trust, Interpersonal Relationships, Outlook and Nutrition. Live It Up! is designed to help students make healthier choices in all areas of life.
